How to Care for Metal Products So They Last for Years

A well-made canopy, fence or grill can last for decades — but only with a little care. At SIMETRICA AR we know that proper care for metal products is simple and takes very little time. In this guide we share field-tested tips that will keep your pieces looking like new long after they were installed.

Regular cleaning is the foundation

Most damage can be prevented with simple cleaning. Dust, pollen, tree sap and winter road salt build up on the surface and, over time, encourage corrosion. Wash your metal items 2–3 times a year with warm water and a mild soap solution.

  • Use a soft cloth or sponge — never wire brushes or abrasive cleaners.
  • Rinse with clean water afterwards and wipe dry.
  • Avoid aiming a pressure washer directly at the edges of the paint layer.

Preventing rust

Rust appears wherever metal meets moisture. Pay attention to spots where water collects — joints, bolts and bottom edges. If you notice a small rust patch, lightly sand it and apply an anti-corrosion primer and paint. The sooner you act, the easier it is to stop.

Caring for powder-coated surfaces

Powder coating is tough, but it still appreciates a gentle touch. Clean it only with mild products and never use solvents or acetone. If the coating gets scratched, a quick touch-up protects the bare metal underneath.

Seasonal checks

Twice a year — in spring and autumn — spend a few minutes on inspection. Check that fasteners are tight, hinges move smoothly, and there are no new signs of rust or paint damage. Oil the hinges on gates and doors so they last longer and stay quiet. We back our work with a 3-year warranty, but regular care will help your pieces last far longer still.
